Genesis Lunch Bunch

Many years ago I transferred into Genesis Lodge and sat quite contented on the sideline. I actively supported the fund raisers and community activities including DeMolay and Rainbow. I worked plenty of night shifts with the telephone company and it was difficult to attend Lodge on a regular basis.

Every once in awhile I’d get a call from WB Bud Jamison (usually on a Sunday afternoon) inviting me to have lunch with a few Lodge members and their ladies. I was thrilled to be included in their group. Occasionally, as time permitted, I actually attended.

The tradition continues. Deena Jamison told me that Bud started the luncheon over twenty years ago to get Lodge members in the neighborhood together in an informal setting just for the friendship and camaraderie. He enjoyed making the calls on Sunday afternoon to make a personal contact with the members and see how they were doing. I felt honored to be on his list.

Bud became ill with cancer and several brothers picked up the phone and made the calls. Brian O’Dell in particular and Deena kept the lunch bunch going. When I became Junior Warden, I also felt it was important to maintain the tradition and helped Deena make the calls.

Today, the list is down to 41 members. It takes me about an hour and a half to call the list. Times have changed. I get to chat with a few but mostly I just leave a message on the recorder. The lunch is always on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. It surprises me how many folks schedule their doctors appointments at the same time. Still, we have about a dozen people join us at the various restaurants around the Lynnwood area.

If you are not on the list (you didn’t get a call) and you want to be included, call me. The time and place is posted on our Website, Facebook and Trestle Board. Family and friends are more than welcome.
